ART by Fabrice Serafino

While living in the Dordogne, he met Adrian Charlton, a master of traditional English wickerwork. As soon as he was introduced to wickerwork, it was love at first sight. He uses traditional basketry techniques, which he then adapts, as well as free weaving techniques to create contemporary, sculptural pieces in which the fluidity of the assembly of the fibres highlights the movement in the object. The result of his constant quest to understand the material is an assertive and singular style of manufacture. Today, in his workshop in Solliès-Pont, in the Var region of France, he makes objects that are more or less utilitarian, where the boundaries between craft, design and art are increasingly blurred.
