Dry stone retaining walls, built without mortar or binder, are a symbol of our Provence landscapes. But are they just the remnants of a golden age of rural life? Could it not be that this know-how offers a lesson in sobriety, a way of rethinking our modernity? How can dry stone be taken out of museums and reinvested in urban and suburban development projects?
Approach: Arnaud's international industrial experience over a period of ten years has enabled him to grasp the issues of size and scale in organisations, the complexity of supply processes and the interdependence of flows. The challenges of proximity and the simplicity of economic models for the future prompted him to become involved in entrepreneurship by rediscovering the know-how of dry-stone construction.
In Draguignan, in the Var department, he set up the company ‘Quand parlent les pierres’, which is reviving the dry stone industry in its native region, thereby contributing to the development of local, sustainable economic activities. Through the use of stone and their know-how, its wall builders combine heritage and contemporary issues in the beauty of our Provencal landscapes.
Through its involvement in the Fédération Française des Professionnels de la Pierre Sèche (FFPPS), it is helping to shape the industry nationally, at the crossroads between the landscape and construction industries.
